In accordance with the concept of curriculum 2013, this book is compiled in reference to the learning of IPA in an integrated and intact manner, as a result of which every knowledge taught, the learning must be continued to make students skilled in presenting the knowledge mastered concretely and abstractly, and act as beings who are grateful for the gift of the universe given to him through responsible utilization.

This book describes the minimal efforts that students must make to achieve the expected competencies. In accordance with the approach used in the 2013 Curriculum, students are instructed to find other learning origins that are available and stretch widely around it. The role of teachers is crucial to increase and adjust the absorption of students using the availability of activities in this book. Teachers can enrich it with creations in other forms of synchronous and relevant activities that are sourced according to the social and natural environment.

As the first edition, this book is very open and continues to be restored and refined. To that end, we invite readers to put criticism, suggestions, & input for improvements & improvements in the next edition. For the donation, we thank you. Hopefully we can provide the best for the advancement of the world of education in order to prepare the centenary generation of Indonesia Merdeka (2045).

The 2013 curriculum is designed to strengthen students’ competencies in terms of knowledge, skills, & attitudes as a whole. The process of achievement through the learning of a number of subjects are assembled into a unity that supports each other’s achievement of competence. If at the level of SD / MI, some subjects are merged into one & presented in the form of themes, then at the level of junior high school / MTs learning has begun to be separated into subjects.

As a transition to secondary education, this separation is still not fully done for junior high school students / MTs. Materials from the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth and Space Sciences still need to be presented as a unit in the subjects of IPA (Natural Sciences). This is intended to provide complete insight for junior high school students / MTs about the basic principles that govern the universe with all its contents.

The book IPA Class VIII SMP / MTs is compiled with the above thoughts. The field of biology is used as a foundation (platform) for discussion of other fields of science. Living things are used as objects to explain the basic principles that govern nature such as natural objects and their interactions, energy and balance, etc. Through the discussion of using various fields of science in the natural science family, a complete understanding of the nature it inhabits and the natural objects found around it can be mastered by junior high school students / MTs.

As one of the science groups used to measure the educational progress of a country, a country’s students’ understanding of IPA is compared to routinely as done through TIMSS (The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PISA (Program for International Student Assessment). Through international assessments like this we can find out the quality of IPA learning compared to other countries. IPA material in curriculum 2013 has been adjusted to the demands of dominance of IPA material from TIMSS and PISA.
